Valve Gallery - Tuning Indicators (2)

Valves: Y63, 6U5, 6G5G, EM1.

Shown above is a tuning indicator marked as Brimar on the base.  However the shape of the Y63 clearly indicates that it is of Marconi Osram manufacture.  First available about 1937, and enjoyed a long production life right through the 1940s and beyond.  International Octal (I.O.) base with 6.3v heater 120mm height. Shown above is a Am-Brit 6U5, though marked Brimar again. 6.3v heater with I.O. base approx 112mm height.

Shown above is a Sylvania 6G5G tuning indicator with UX6 base.  This device would have been used in American based equipment.  6.3v heater approx 118mm height. Shown above is a Mullard EM1.  This magic eye was the replacement for the TV4 from 1936, and was introduced in 1938.  Utilises P Type side contact base with 6.3v heater.   Height of 82mm.
