Valve Gallery - Rectifiers (4)

Valves: U52, 80, UY21, EY51.

Shown above is a Marconi Osram U52 rectifier. With an International Octal (I.O.) base this rectifier has a 5v heater.  This is a highly rated device, capable of handling a maximum of 500v and I of 250mA.  It is a substantial device approx 135mm high, still used today in high end audio amplifiers. Shown above are two 80 rectifiers.  The left hand image shows the rectifier in its earliest form with balloon glass envelope, and the right hand shows how the rectifier was reduced in size as further valve development occurred.  With a 5v heater, they use a UX4 base.  Left hand rectifier from Philco is 140mm height, whilst right hand is Sylvania of 125mm height.  Each  can handle max voltage of 350v at I of 125mA.

Another couple of less common rectifiers for the bottom pictures again.  This UY21 from Mullard has a heater of 50v.  At 95mm height it maximum voltage of 250v at Max I of 140mA.  Uses a B8G base with height of 95mm. Shown above is a EY51 rectifier from Mullard.  This has a heater voltage of 6.3v and utilises the little used B2A base that incorporates wire lead-outs instead of pins. Maximum voltage of 5000v and Max I of 3mA.  It is of 60mm height.
