Murphy Radio Model BU183 From 1952

Shown above is the BU183 receiver, notable for being the first mains/battery receiver from Murphy. This set also features the squared plastic speaker grille first seen in the A170 receiver from 1950, and this proved to be the last time the material was used by Murphy. The batteries slipped into the rubber bands affixed to the base (as shown below left), and this stopped them sliding about as the set was being carried. Note from the picture below right above that particular emphasis has been made of the Murphy “M” in the engraving at the fixing at each end of the receiver handle. Valve line-up is 1C2, 1F3, 1FD9, 1P11, Metal Rectifier.
