Murphy Radio Model B283 From 1957

Also released in 1957 was the B283 battery portable receiver. The cabinet is very reminiscent of fifties design, finished in a glued-on plastic type vinyl over a wooded frame. Here the main aim has been to make the receiver as small as possible, and to that end a fair amount of design ingenuity has been employed. The close-up below left shows how the L.T. batteries are positioned on the rear of the speaker, clamped to the speaker magnet by tension clamp. How this affects the frequency response of the speaker is not known! Valve line-up is 1C3, 1F1, 1FD1, 1P1.
