Murphy Radio Model A474 From 1958

Shown above is the model A474 from 1958. This set now features piano-key wavechange selection. Piano-key pushbuttons became the latest fad in wireless in 1958 and several manufacturers incorporated them.  

The trend for gilt finishes is also still evident, as well as the knobs having gold inserts, significant use of gold wavy patterns is made in the tuning scale. This set features a large bakelite cabinet and also includes a magic eye tuning indicator. An internal ferrite rod aerial could be rotated by the use of a circular disc, the circumference of which protruded through the rear of the cabinet (arrowed in the photo below left). Valve line-up is 6L12, 6F18, 6C12, 6F18, 6LD12, EM85, 6P15, EZ80.
