K.B. continued, the FB10 "toaster"

Finally in the KB section is the FB10, a classic that has come to be known as the "Toaster". The circuit is a fairly mundane 4 valve plus rectifier, it's the innovative cabinet that makes these sets collectable. It was released in 1950 and cost £8.17.1 +pt, and was also available in red, and pastel green and blue cabinets. The coloured cabinets are now vary rare and sought after. The common cabinet shown here is in cream, but it is still a desirable wireless. It appeared again in 1955 as the FB10FM, as its model name suggesting it incorporated FM reception in this guise. This cabinet style became something of a trend in the early 1950's as many manufactures were selling radios with this cabinet form, notable Decca with their Deccette, Murphy with their A100, and Ekco with their U159. One of the problems with constructing radios is the problem of heat build-up from valves and other components like droppers etc. Obviously at this time there was no alternative but to utilise valves in the receiver, but further heat build-up was avoided by use of an auto-transformer in the power circuitry. Valve line-up was 6BE6, 6BA6, 6AT6, 6V6GT, 6X5GT.
