G.E.C.  TouchTune 5 BC3960 Bowden Cables

As mentioned on the GEC AC38 page this receiver again features the system of metal Bowden cables utilised to indicate the waveband selected and the volume level of the receiver in the tuning glass. I've highlighted the indicators with arrows in the picture above. The workings of one of these cables (the waveband selection on the front of the set at the right) may be seen in the picture left. GEC have even linked the waveband switch to the pushbuttons, such that if a medium wave pushbutton is selected and the waveband switch is changed to long wave, the pushbutton will be released (and vice versa for long wave and short wave etc). Now I must confess I did not know this when I bought this set and the vendor apparently didn't either. When I was trying the pushbuttons prior to purchase none of the medium wave pushbuttons would select, they just bounced out again. I therefore presumed there must be a major problem with the latching mechanism, and the vendor agreed that must be the cause. A significant price reduction was thus negotiated on the basis of the potential pushbutton problems, and it was only when I had the receiver home I discovered it was due to mis-operation on both the vendor's and my own part!

Valve line-up of this receiver was X65, W63, DH63, KT63, U50.
