Ekco works in Southend in 2008

The previous page showed the works in 2002, now six years later in 2008 Ekco really have ended their presence in Southend. These photos were taken on August 13th 2008, and show the demolition of the factory in progress.  At this point the offices block facing the main road has been largely demolished, just each end of the block remains.  The picture below left shows one of the industrial workshops which were behind the main offices block, itself partially demolished.  The picture below right shows the impressive stone main entrance, still standing amongst all the rubble surrounding it.  The end of an era, but fortunately we still have many examples surviving of the groundbreaking radios built in the works to remind us of Ekco's contribution to the British Radio industry.  The land has now become a housing estate.
